At a gathering celebrating “Social Media Week”, officials of Nai Supporting Open Media emphasized on promoting social media in Afghanistan.
Nai regarded social media as a means to improve relations between Afghanistan and other countries.
Social media in Afghanistan, comprising of Facebook, Twitter and You Tube, have gained popularity lately among the Afghan youth.
Nai Executive Director Abdul Mujeeb Khalvatgar said social media has the power to eliminate all the problems associated with bilateral relations of Afghanistan.
“There are some circles within the Afghan government who want to spoil the relation between Afghanistan and other countries. We should bear in mind that social media can solve the problems of the government and strengthen its relation with the international community. We should promote social media on a massive scale,” Tolo News quotes Khalvatgar.
Meanwhile, a number of participants at the gathering pointed out the negative aspects of social media in Afghanistan.
Many praised the social media and consider its independency as an added advantage.
Since it is unregulated, many misuse it by creating faking accounts, defaming dignitaries and using derogatory speeches.
According to Nai officials, 750,000 Afghans have access to a variety of social media platforms.
Nai urged the Ministry of Information and Culture to celebrate the “Social Media Week”, starting from July 23 to 30.
