Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival is dedicated to the film fraternity of the northeast region of India. This initiative aims to build a platform for the new as well as professional filmmakers to come together and rediscover different aspects of movie making. The festival includes screening of some of the best movies, documentaries and short films of the region as well as of the nation along with workshops by renowned and acclaimed directors. Every year we try to feature some of the best directors who have left an incredible mark in the world of cinema. A short Film Contest is also organised for the film makers of the northeast as a part of this Film Festival.
Gaurav Gogoi, who started this initiative says, "I started this festival last year in order to promote the hugely talented film makers of Northeast India. This year the festival got bigger and better. We are proud to screen Jahnu Barua's Konikor Ramdhenu and Kaafiron ka Namaaz (producer Bhargav Sakia)." He added that Bollywood star Farhan Akhtar would also be performing live on April 20.
The inaugural edition of the festival was organised in January 2013 at Guwahati and featured directors Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti and Anushka Rizvi. The event took place on 11th and 12th of January, 2013, at Anuradha Cineplex. A short Film Contest is also organised for the film makers of the northeast as a part of this Film Festival. In the inaugural year more than hundred film makers from all over the northeast submitted their entries for the contest.
After a through screening the jury short listed 10 best entries for the final round. The acclaimed featured directors Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti and Anushka Rizvi personally reviewed each of the shortlisted films and selected the top winning entries. In 2014 the film festival will be organised along with the Brahmaputra Valley Short Film Contest. Some of the best directors from the Indian film fraternity will be invited to be part of this initiative.
