Wear a helmet and grab a candy! Jorhat, a town in upper Assam is witnessing a interesting sight on its streets. Two-wheeler riders who abide by rules and wear an helmet are stopped and offered a candy by the traffic policeman on duty.
This is a brainchild of Sanjukta Parashar, Superintendent of Police, Jorhat and a fine example of people-friendly policing. Parashar posted on facebook, "This is a new initiative. We'll distribute 300 pieces of candy every day to those two wheeler riders who wear a helmet! For those who don't, well, we will keep on writing the challan! THE CHOICE IS YOURS!"
The initiative has been a huge draw among the two-wheeler riders. Wasim Akram, team member, Justice for Society says, "If this is your Idea then you are the only hope for a better city right now. Please come to Guwahati and fix it."
As of now, everyone seems to be wearing a smile on the streets of Jorhat.
