Flower Child, an experimental rock group from Assam will be headlining a festival organized by the department of Royal School of Communication and Media at Royal Global University in Guwahati. The Flower Child is a band that experiments with alternative, progressive rock acts and is a brainchild of Droopad Bujarbaruah, a musician, singer, song writer, music producer and entrepreneur. Droopad is constantly striving to break barriers and create his own unique sound in the world of music.
For years, Droopad has been performing with numerous artists all over the country. As time went by, he started realizing that his musical ideas were taking a much stronger and clearer avatar than what he had anticipated earlier. There was a voice that needed to be heard and he had a message that needed to be said. Simultaneously, he was also working professionally as a music producer and sound engineer in different studios in Mumbai, so he was on the look out for a stage name that would be perfect to describe his artistic vision and also compliment his artistic persona. And then, one fine day, The Flower Child happened.
The actual term, Flower Child, was used as a synonym to describe hippies in the early 60’s. At that time, hippie’s led the anti war movement and were pushing the idea of one love and world peace. In that context, Droopad describes himself as a modern day hippie since his main vision is to use the medium of music to spread peace, love, harmony and awareness all over the world. Apart from the hippie context, the term Flower child was truly inspiring because a flower may seem delicate but it withstands storms and scorching heat but still blooms. The journey of a flower from a seed to its full bloomed state is exactly like how a human being lives a life. 'Life is definitely hard, but we have to keep pushing to shine and ultimately winter comes for everyone where we have to silently wither away. And Child because there is a child inside all of us that keeps us alive,' says Droopad.
Flower Child was formed in Mumbai in 2017 and since then the act has played at some of the major cities of India including Mumbai, Bangalore and New Delhi and has also done a tour in the northeastern part of India. So far the band has released four singles, three official music videos and their songs have been featured on the leading music magazine of the world, Rolling Stone Magazine (Indian edition) and their music has also been aired on some of the top radio stations including Red FM and Big FM. Flower Child also had its television debut in Doordarshan, Assam and also made their second TV appearance at News Live prime time segment with the release of their song, Two Fools in a Jar. The act also made it to the Shillong Times newspapers with the release of the same. The latest release of Flower Child was a remake of the legendary song of Late Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, Manhue Manhuor Baabe. The Flower Child rendition of the song is the first progressive rock track fto be ever composed in Assamese. Currently Flower Child is working on their album and their next single is targeted for release in June.
