is a London-based journalist and has written extensively on identity politics, communalism and Muslim issues. In 1993, he won the prestigious Ford Foundation Press Fellowship at Wolfson College, Cambridge University, to study the British experience of multiculturism. He returned to Wolfson College in 1998 as a Visiting Fellow. He was The Hindu's UK correspondent for more than a decade and is now an independent columnist.
